There are many, many opportunities to lend a helping hand at PPAW. One way is to volunteer
in your spare time. Following are the areas of greatest need:
PPAW is a Pet Partner at the Pets Mart in Alcoa, TN. We set up in their store every other
Sunday with adoptable cats and kittens. We also participate in their quarterly National
Adoption Events, or special promotions, such as Pet Photos with Santa “Claws” at Christmas.
We need people to help out at these events. Typical tasks would be transport of animals and
display materials, set-up of the display, talking to interested customers about the animals,
filling out adoption paperwork, and then teardown of the display and transport back to the clinic.
We also need people to help with the Trap, Neuter and Return (TNR) of feral cats. We receive
many calls from people reaching out for help with the over-population of cats in their
neighborhood, a nearby barn or a trailer park. We can help, but we can’t be in all places at
the same time. We offer training and trapping equipment if you can volunteer your time to help
trap and transport the feral animals to the clinic and back.
PPAW can always use help with fundraising. If you have great fundraising ideas, we’d love to
hear them! We also need people with the skills to organize and execute fundraising events.
If this is your special niche, we need you!
Public relations, computer skills and community outreach are also areas where volunteers can
make a difference.
Finally, we need foster homes! During kitten season, we are overwhelmed with litters of
abandoned or rescued kittens from feral colonies, and we need temporary foster homes to house
and nurture the little darlings until they are old enough to be spayed or neutered. At that
time, they can be taken to our adoption events to look for their furever homes. Any expenses
incurred, such as food or kitty litter can be deducted from your income tax as a legitimate
charitable expense. PPAW will provide any medical attention or medications that foster animals
