Vaccination Recommendations and Fees

For purposes of clarity, we have divided the subjects of vaccines into three categories: Rabies, Core and Non-Core.

RABIES Vaccine Recommendation:

In accordance with Tennessee State Law we recommend that puppies and kittens receive a single dose of rabies vaccine at 12-16 weeks. A booster is required one year later, and then every three years using a rabies vaccine approved for 3-year administration. PLEASE NOTE: The PPAW Spay/Neuter Clinic will only administer rabies vaccinations to animals who have been previously spayed or neutered, OR who are to receive a rabies vaccination in conjunction with a scheduled surgery.

CORE VACCINE Recommendation:

If you do not know the vaccination history of your cat or dog, the following CORE vaccines are recommended:

Puppies:

Puppies should be vaccinated for Distemper, Adenovirus-2, Canine Parvovirus and Parinfluenza (DA2PP) with a series of three (3) vaccinations at 3-4 week intervals starting at 6-8 weeks of age, with the final booster no sooner than 16 weeks of age. If your puppy is older than 16 weeks, and has not started the vaccination series, two doses of vaccines are given 3-4 weeks apart. Puppies must receive a minimum of two (2) vaccinations to be protected.

Adult Dogs:

Adult dogs should be boosted one year after the puppy series has been completed, and then should be vaccinated for DA2PP every 3 years. Adult dogs who have never been vaccinated should get their first vaccination, then receive a booster 3-4 weeks later. After a booster at one year, revaccination is recommended every 3 years.

Kittens:

Kittens should be vaccinated for Feline Herpesvirus 1, Feline Calicivirus and Feline Panleukopenia (FVRCP) with a series of three (3) vaccinations at 3-4 week intervals starting at 6-8 weeks of age, with the final booster no sooner than 16 weeks of age. If your kitten is older than 16 weeks of age and has not started the vaccination process, two doses of vaccine are given 3-4 weeks apart. Kittens must receive a minimum of two (2) vaccinations to be protected.

Adult Cats:

Adult cats should be boosted one year after the kitten series has been completed, and then should be vaccinated for FVRCP every 3 years. Adult cats who have never been vaccinated should get their vaccination, then receive a booster 3-4 weeks later. After a booster at one year, revaccination is recommended every 3 years.

Adult cats should receive a booster one year after the kitten series, and then boosters every 3 years. Adult cats who have never received a vaccination should have a booster in 3 weeks to ensure adequate protection.
